Week 11

This week I got to do some electrical work, redoing some wiring, fixing grounds and some soldering. We had a bus that when you pressed the brake pedal the back up lights would also turn on. So the first step on something like this was to check ground wires and make sure that none of the connections were corroded and to make sure there were no hot wires that were shorted out. After that was done the problem still continued. It was then decided to add a ground wire off of the back up lights to a bolt that has ground wire coming from the brake lights and running lights. This fixed the problem. Somehow the electricity had found an easier way to ground its self out by going through the back up light and causing it to turn on.

Week 10

We did a little bus painting this week, getting the buses ready for state inspection. For some reason the factory black paint on the eyebrows of this year of blue bird buses doesn't stick very well. So we had about 4 buses that we had to repaint the eyebrows on.

I got a chance to do a set of rear brakes on one of the buses this week. First the brakes had to be backed off by loosening up the S cams. Then the rear duals had to be removed.

Then the drums had to be removed using a drum dolly.

The old brake shoes and hub assembly. The brake springs get cut off cause they will be getting replaced.

The old brake pads. They are worn down to a 1/4 inch which is the lowest they can legal be worn to to pass a DOT inspection.

The hub assembly also got removed to replace the rear seals because they were leaking a little bit

Brake shoes reinstalled and hub put back on with a new rear seal

New brake springs and rollers installed. Every bus gets new springs and rollers when brakes are installed

New rollers on the S cams, which control the adjustments on the brakes. The bus also got new drums, every bus also gets new drums when brakes are installed

Week 9

Installing a new front camera and adding a rear camera to a bus. Wire had to be ran the full length of the bus and then ran through the ceiling. Running the wire through the ceiling was the fun part, fighting the insulation and getting the wire underneath the rib in the ceiling.

Wires also had to be ran through the dash to the front camera and the fuse panel

New switch added for the cameras placed by the wiper switch

Soldering together some wires and putting heat shrink wrap on them
